Jaydess
Jaydess is a hormonal intrauterine device (IUD), specifically a levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system (LNG-IUS) manufactured by Bayer. It is a small, T-shaped plastic device inserted into the uterus by a trained clinician. The system contains 13.5 mg of levonorgestrel and releases the hormone locally over about three years, providing long-acting contraception without daily action. The released hormone thickens cervical mucus, inhibits sperm passage, and causes thinning of the endometrium, which reduces the likelihood of fertilization and implantation; ovulation may be suppressed in some users.
Effectiveness and duration: When properly placed, Jaydess is highly effective, with typical-use pregnancy rates around 0.2–0.3%
Side effects and risks: The most common early effect is irregular bleeding or spotting, which often improves
Contraindications and considerations: Jaydess is not suitable for individuals who are pregnant or may be pregnant,
Removal and aftercare: Removal is performed by a clinician and is generally straightforward; fertility typically returns
