Rio de Janeiro/Galeão–Antonio Carlos Jobim International Airport (IATA: GIG, ICAO: SBGL), commonly known simply as Galeão, is the primary international airport serving Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is located on Ilha do Governador in Guanabara Bay, about 20 kilometers north of the city center.

The airport's official name reflects both its historical location in the Galeão district and its dedication to Antônio Carlos Jobim, a prominent Brazilian musician. Galeão opened in 1923 as a military airfield and later expanded to handle civil aviation. In the late 20th century it was renamed Rio de Janeiro/Galeão–Antonio Carlos Jobim International Airport to honor the composer.

Facilities consist of two passenger terminals: Terminal 1, primarily used for domestic flights, and Terminal 2, which handles most international traffic along with some domestic operations. The facilities include passenger lounges, retail and dining outlets, customs and immigration processing, and cargo facilities. The airport has undergone modernization in recent years, with updates to gates, baggage handling, security, and passenger services.

Operationally, Galeão serves a mix of national and international routes, complementing the city’s other airport, Santos Dumont, which handles most short-haul and domestic flights. Ground transportation links include road access and various public transit options to the wider Rio de Janeiro metropolitan area. The airport has been part of Brazil’s broader efforts to privatize and upgrade airport infrastructure, with concessions awarded to private operators to expand capacity and efficiency.
