Jagaddhatri

Jagaddhatri is a Hindu goddess, a form of Devi, who is primarily worshipped in the Indian states of West Bengal and Odisha. She is often depicted as a four-armed goddess standing on a lion or an elephant, holding various weapons and attributes in her hands. The name Jagaddhatri translates to "supporter of the universe" or "she who sustains the world."

Her iconography varies in different traditions, but common elements include a radiant countenance, often with a serene or fierce expression, and elaborate jewelry. She is seen as a protector and a bestower of prosperity and strength. The worship of Jagaddhatri is particularly prominent during the autumn festival bearing her name, Jagaddhatri Puja, which usually falls in late October or November.

Jagaddhatri is considered by her devotees to be the embodiment of cosmic energy and the creative force behind the universe. She is often associated with Durga, sometimes seen as an alternative or complementary aspect of the Mother Goddess. While Durga's puja emphasizes her victory over Mahishasura, Jagaddhatri's worship focuses on her role as the sustainer and preserver of creation. Her temples are found in various parts of Bengal, with significant celebrations taking place in Chandannagar, Hugli, and Krishnanagar.
