Järjestelmäkellojen, also known as system clocks, are fundamental components in computer systems and other digital devices. They are responsible for generating a precise and regular series of electrical pulses that synchronize the operations of various hardware components. This rhythmic pulsing acts as a heartbeat for the system, ensuring that different parts of the processor and other integrated circuits work together in a coordinated manner.

The speed at which a system clock operates is measured in Hertz (Hz), typically Gigahertz (GHz) for modern processors. A higher clock speed generally indicates that the processor can execute more cycles per second, potentially leading to faster performance. However, clock speed is not the only factor determining overall system speed; other elements such as processor architecture, cache size, and memory speed also play crucial roles.

System clocks are typically implemented using quartz crystals, which vibrate at a very stable frequency when an electric current is applied. This stable vibration is then amplified and shaped into a square wave, which serves as the clock signal. The clock signal is distributed throughout the system via a clock distribution network to all the components that require synchronization. Without a system clock, digital devices would be unable to perform complex computations or manage the flow of data effectively, rendering them inoperable.
