Jännitteenkorjauslaite, commonly known as a rectifier, is an electrical component or circuit that converts alternating current (AC) into direct current (DC). AC is characterized by its periodically reversing direction, whereas DC flows in a single direction. Rectifiers are essential in many electronic devices where a stable DC power supply is required, such as in power adapters for computers, televisions, and mobile phones.

The most basic form of a rectifier uses diodes, which are semiconductor devices that allow current to flow in only one direction. A half-wave rectifier uses a single diode to allow only half of the AC waveform to pass through, resulting in a pulsating DC output. A full-wave rectifier uses multiple diodes, often arranged in a bridge configuration, to utilize both halves of the AC waveform, producing a smoother DC output with less ripple.

More sophisticated rectifiers can employ active components like transistors or integrated circuits to achieve higher efficiency and better control over the DC output. The output of a rectifier is typically not a perfectly smooth DC voltage but rather a pulsating DC. This ripple can be further reduced by using filter components, such as capacitors, which store electrical energy and release it during the low-voltage parts of the rectified waveform, smoothing out the output. The process of filtering is often a crucial step following rectification to achieve a stable and usable DC voltage for sensitive electronic circuits.
