Iðehlið

Iðehlið is a neighborhood in Reykjavík, the capital city of Iceland. It is located in the southwestern part of the city, near the Reykjavík University campus. Iðehlið is a relatively small and residential area, with a mix of single-family homes and apartment buildings.

The name "Iðehlið" roughly translates to "yew cliff" or "yew valley" in Icelandic, possibly named for the presence of yew trees (Taxus baccata) in the area. The neighborhood has a range of landscapes, from low-lying coastal areas to a slight rise in elevation towards the north.

Iðehlið is served by several bus lines and stops along the Hringvegur (Ring Road) that goes through the area. This makes it relatively accessible by public transportation, although a reliable car may be beneficial for some residents due to the relatively limited service.

As of the 2020 census, the population of Iðehlið is about 1,600 people. It is a relatively quiet and compact community that tends to draw in young and middle-aged families who appreciate its excellent public services and well-maintained public spaces. Some of the local amenities include a park and a few convenience stores. While not as lively as some other areas in Reykjavík, Iðehlið offers residents a laid-back lifestyle that lies in proximity to the city center as well as the nearby mountains and Eiðhvammur park.
