The term is derived from the combination of *Infectious Bursal Disease Virus* (IBDV) and *Phenotypic* variations, though its exact etiology remains debated among avian veterinarians and researchers. The condition is often associated with outbreaks of severe immunosuppression, leading to secondary infections and high mortality rates in young birds, typically between 3 and 6 weeks of age.

Symptoms of IrmaPVphen include lethargy, pale combs and wattles, diarrhea, and stunted growth. Affected flocks may exhibit a sudden decline in egg production and increased susceptibility to other pathogens, such as *Escherichia coli* or *Salmonella*. The disease is transmitted through fecal-oral routes, with contaminated feed, water, or direct contact facilitating spread. Environmental factors, such as poor biosecurity practices or overcrowding, are believed to exacerbate outbreaks.

Diagnosis of IrmaPVphen is challenging due to its nonspecific clinical signs and overlap with other avian diseases like avian influenza or Newcastle disease.
