Invincible

Invincible is an English adjective describing something or someone that cannot be defeated, overcome, or conquered; it can also refer to exceptional strength, durability, or resilience. The term derives from Latin invincibilis, from in- “not” + vincere “to conquer.” It entered English in the 16th century and has since been used in literal and figurative senses, including descriptions of physical power, moral resolve, or enduring hardship.

In everyday language, invincible signals near-superlative endurance or efficacy, often used hyperbolically. It can also function as a title or descriptor in culture, where the sense is typically aspirational or metaphorical rather than literal invulnerability.

The character, Mark Grayson, possesses extraordinary powers and stars in a long-running series that began in 2003. An animated television adaptation, Invincible, premiered on Amazon Prime Video in 2021, expanding the comic’s storyline with voice performances including Steven Yeun and J. K. Simmons. Invincible is also the title of a 2006 American sports drama film about Vince Papale, a football player who earned a place on the Philadelphia Eagles after an open tryout.
