The name combines “intimate” with “scale,” signaling a graded, quantitative assessment rather than a simple yes/no judgment.

Status and development: Intimatescale is not a universally standardized instrument in the scholarly literature. While researchers and clinicians discuss the idea of a concise scale to assess relationship intimacy, there is no single, widely accepted version with established psychometric properties. In practice, practitioners may adapt existing measures of intimacy or construct bespoke questionnaires tailored to specific research questions or clinical contexts.

Construction: A typical approach would involve an item pool that assesses various facets of intimacy, such as emotional closeness, willingness to share personal information, frequency and quality of physical affection, and perceived trust. Items are commonly rated on a Likert-type scale (for example, 1 to 5), and scores are aggregated to yield a total intimacy score.
