Intersectionalityrecognizing is a concept referring to the deliberate acknowledgment and integration of multiple, overlapping social identities and systems of oppression in analysis, policy, and practice. It emphasizes that experiences cannot be understood by examining single identity categories in isolation; rather, combinations of race, gender, class, sexuality, disability, age, nationality, and other axes interact to shape advantage or disadvantage.

Its name derives from intersectionality, a term coined by legal scholar Kimberlé Crenshaw in 1989. Intersectionalityrecognizing extends this idea into applied contexts, urging researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to identify compounding inequalities, to collect data that capture intersections, and to involve affected groups in decision-making.

Applications include research design that uses multi-dimensional stratification, program evaluation that tests differential impacts, and policy development that foresees unintended consequences across groups. In education and healthcare, it supports inclusive curricula and patient care that accounts for multiple identities. In workplace and urban planning, it informs equitable access and representation.

Critics note that fully implementing intersectionalityrecognizing can be methodologically complex and resource-intensive; there is a risk of overgeneralization or essentializing identities, and difficulties in disentangling causal pathways. Proponents argue for iterative, participatory methods and transparent assumptions to mitigate these issues.
