Internetstiftelsen

Internetstiftelsen i Sverige, commonly known as Internetstiftelsen or IIS, is a non-profit foundation based in Sweden. Its stated mission is to promote the development of a free, secure, and accessible Internet for all Swedes. The foundation operates as a national hub for Internet governance, infrastructure, and research funding, and serves as the administrator of Sweden's country code top-level domain.

Domain management: The foundation manages the .se registry and provides registrar services to Swedish registrars; it supports DNS infrastructure and promotes security features such as DNSSEC adoption.

Activities: It funds research and development, supports digital inclusion and online safety programs, publishes statistics and analyses on Internet usage and infrastructure, and runs educational initiatives. It also collaborates with government agencies, universities, industry, and civil society.

Governance and funding: The organization is governed by a board and led by a chief executive officer; it is financed through domain registration fees, contributions from the Swedish Internet community, and public or private funding.

History: Established in the 1990s to support Internet growth in Sweden; later expanded to include domain administration and infrastructure development.
