Interlinguale

Interlinguale is an Italian adjective meaning “between languages” or “interlingual.” In scholarly usage, it describes phenomena, analyses, or processes that involve more than one language or that traverse linguistic boundaries. It corresponds to the English term interlingual and is commonly found in linguistics, translation studies, and education.

In linguistics, interlinguale denotes cross-linguistic transfer or interference, where features of one language appear in another, especially during first or second language acquisition. Researchers study how phonology, syntax, lexicon, and pragmatics can be influenced by a learner’s other languages, and how such transfer interacts with intralingual development.

In translation studies and language technology, interlinguale can refer to approaches that use a language-neutral intermediary, or interlingua, as a bridge between languages.
