Another common scale is the Saffir-Simpson hurricane wind scale, which categorizes hurricanes based on their wind speed. This scale helps in understanding the potential for damage.

In acoustics, sound intensity is measured using the decibel scale. This scale is also logarithmic and compares the sound pressure level to a reference pressure. Higher decibel values indicate louder sounds. Similarly, the pH scale measures the acidity or alkalinity of a solution, with values below 7 being acidic and above 7 being alkaline.
