Inositolryhmä refers to a group of cyclic polyols, commonly known as inositols. The most prevalent and biologically significant form is myo-inositol. These compounds are structurally similar to glucose, with six hydroxyl groups attached to a cyclohexane ring. Inositols are found in a variety of foods, including fruits, beans, grains, and nuts, and are also synthesized by the human body.

Myo-inositol plays a crucial role as a precursor in the synthesis of important signaling molecules, such as inositol trisphosphate (IP3) and phosphatidylinositol phosphates (PIPs).
