Injektiomuotauksessa, often translated as injection molding, is a manufacturing process used to produce a large number of identical plastic parts. It is a versatile technique that can create complex shapes with high precision. The process involves injecting molten plastic material into a mold cavity under high pressure.

The basic steps of injection molding include mold preparation, material feeding, melting, injection, cooling, and ejection. First, a precisely machined metal mold, typically made of steel or aluminum, is opened. Then, plastic pellets are fed into a heated barrel where they are melted and mixed. This molten plastic is then forcefully injected into the open mold cavity. Once the cavity is filled, the mold is closed, and the plastic is allowed to cool and solidify, taking the shape of the mold. Finally, the mold opens, and the finished part is ejected.

Injection molding is widely used across many industries, including automotive, electronics, medical devices, consumer goods, and packaging. Its advantages include high production rates, excellent part consistency, the ability to produce intricate designs, and a wide range of available plastic materials. However, the initial cost of tooling (the mold) can be significant, making it most suitable for mass production. The process requires careful control of parameters such as injection pressure, temperature, cooling time, and mold design to ensure the quality and integrity of the final product.
