Infraredbased

Infraredbased is an adjective used to describe technologies, devices, or systems that rely primarily on infrared radiation as the source of information, energy, or both. Infrared radiation encompasses wavelengths roughly from 0.7 micrometers to about 1 millimeter, with near, mid, and far infrared bands applied across different applications. Infraredbased systems typically exploit emitted, reflected, or transmitted infrared light to detect, measure, or deliver energy without visible-light illumination.

In sensing and imaging, infraredbased technology enables thermal imaging, night vision, and thermography by capturing infrared emissions or reflections from objects. In communications, infraredbased links use modulated infrared light to transmit data over short, line-of-sight distances, as seen in remote controls and some wireless interfaces. In heating and industrial processing, infraredbased heaters deliver energy by radiation to non-contactly heat surfaces or materials, enabling rapid and localized heating.

Common examples include thermal cameras for building diagnostics and firefighting, infrared remote controls, infrared spectroscopy, and industrial drying or curing processes that rely on radiant heat. Automotive and medical fields also employ infraredbased sensing and imaging for occupancy detection, temperature measurement, and diagnostic thermography.

Advantages of infraredbased technology include non-contact measurements, operation in darkness, and the ability to sense temperature variations or provide rapid heating. Limitations may involve sensitivity to ambient infrared noise, weather and atmospheric absorption, material transparency to infrared, resolution constraints tied to wavelength, and safety considerations for active IR sources.
