This radiation is emitted by all objects with a temperature above absolute zero. Organisms possessing this capability can perceive the heat signatures of other living beings or objects, effectively "seeing" in darkness or through obscurants like smoke or fog.

In the biological world, certain animals, such as pit vipers, boas, and some beetles, have evolved specialized organs to detect infrared radiation. These organs, often located near the eyes, allow them to locate prey by sensing their body heat, even in complete darkness. This ability is crucial for their survival, aiding in hunting and avoiding predators.

In technology, infrared vision is achieved through thermal imaging cameras. These devices detect infrared radiation emitted by objects and convert it into a visible image, typically displayed in shades of gray or color, where different colors represent different temperature ranges.
