Infrapunaan

Infrapunaan is a Finnish term that translates to infrared in English. It refers to the region of the electromagnetic spectrum where electromagnetic radiation has wavelengths longer than visible light but shorter than microwaves. This infrared radiation is invisible to the human eye but can be detected by specialized instruments.

The infrared spectrum is commonly associated with heat. All objects with a temperature above absolute zero emit infrared radiation. The intensity and peak wavelength of this radiation are directly related to the object's temperature. Warmer objects emit more infrared radiation and at shorter wavelengths. This principle is utilized in various technologies, such as thermal imaging cameras, which can "see" heat signatures and are used in applications ranging from medical diagnostics to security surveillance and night vision.

Infrared radiation also plays a role in natural phenomena. The sun emits significant amounts of infrared radiation, contributing to the Earth's warmth. Plants use infrared radiation in photosynthesis, although visible light is the primary energy source. In everyday life, we experience infrared radiation as the warmth felt from a campfire or a radiator. Remote controls for televisions and other electronic devices often use infrared light to transmit signals, which is why they need to be pointed directly at the device they are controlling.
