Infiltratsiooni

Infiltratsiooni, or infiltration, refers to the act of entering an organization, facility, or information system covertly to obtain information, influence events, or support a mission. The emphasis is on stealth, concealment of identity and purpose, and maintaining a limited footprint to avoid detection. In Estonian usage, the term covers physical infiltration, social infiltration (deception of people to gain access), and cyber infiltration (unauthorized access to networks or data).

Historically, infiltration has been used in military and intelligence contexts, where undercover operatives embedded themselves within an organization to observe, recruit contacts, or disrupt operations. In contemporary practice, it also appears in corporate security and law enforcement, either as a defensive concept (to simulate attacks) or as an investigative method.

Common approaches are described at a high level: establishing a plausible cover, creating or exploiting social connections, and exploiting vulnerabilities in systems or processes. In cyberspace, infiltration may involve phishing, credential harvesting, or malware, but the details are not provided here to avoid misuse.
