Infantilized

Infantilized refers to the state of being treated or perceived as childish or immature, despite one's actual age. The term is often used to describe individuals who are treated as if they lack the capacity for independent thought or action.

For example, in a romantic relationship, one partner might infantilize the other by constantly making decisions for them or dismissing their opinions. In a professional setting, a boss might infantilize an employee by micromanaging their tasks or speaking to them as if they are incapable of understanding complex instructions. Societally, certain groups may be infantilized through media portrayals or public discourse that depicts them as naive or dependent.

While sometimes unintentional, the act of infantilizing someone can have negative consequences.
