Imuvuoto

Imuvuoto is a Finnish term used in technical contexts to describe a leak in a suction or vacuum system. The word is a compound of imu-, meaning suction or vacuum, and vuoto, meaning leak. In Finnish literature, imuvuoto is commonly applied to situations where a system loses its intended vacuum or suction pressure.

The term appears across several fields, including mechanical engineering, laboratory work, medical suction devices, and HVAC, where maintaining a stable vacuum or suction is essential for performance or safety. It is used to distinguish leaks in suction pathways from leaks in pressurized systems.

Causes of imuvuoto include damaged gaskets and seals, cracked hoses, loose or improperly connected fittings, worn valves, or punctures in tubing. The leak may be intrinsic to a component or arise from improper assembly, material degradation, or mechanical damage.

Detection and measurement rely on vacuum or pressure monitoring.
