Imunogenicitatea

Imunogenicitatea, also known as immunogenicity, refers to the ability of a substance to provoke an immune response in the body. This property is critically important in contexts such as vaccine development, therapeutic protein use, and transplant compatibility. An immunogenic substance can stimulate the production of antibodies, activate immune cells, or both, leading to an adaptive immune response aimed at neutralizing or eliminating the foreign agent.

The degree of immunogenicity depends on several factors, including the nature of the substance, its dose, route of administration, and the host's genetic and health background. Proteins, for example, are generally more immunogenic than small molecules, but modifications in protein structure can alter this property. Furthermore, the presence of adjuvants—substances that enhance immune response—can significantly increase immunogenicity.
