Ilmenevilles

Ilmenevilles is a fictional commune in the Valornia region of the Nordan Confederation, used here to illustrate rural municipal organization. It lies in a sheltered valley near the Lune River, about 28 kilometers north of the regional capital. The municipality covers an area of 12.6 square kilometers and had a population of approximately 4,200 in 2022.

First mentioned in 1145, Ilmenevilles grew as an agricultural village and later added small crafts. It gained official commune status in the early 20th century and experienced gradual modernization in the postwar era.

Governance is provided by a municipal council of 15 members elected for six-year terms, headed by a mayor. The commune is part of the Valornia district and contains the hamlet of La Marelle.

Most residents remain employed in agriculture and local services; dairy farming and cereal cultivation remain important. Small businesses support local needs, and a modest tourism sector focuses on hiking routes and rural heritage. The population is aging slightly, with a median age in the mid-40s.

Landmarks include the 13th-century Church of Saint-Pierre and a 19th-century town hall. The annual Fête des Lumières festival brings residents and visitors together for street processions and markets.

Ilmenevilles is connected by regional roads; the nearest railway station is in Bonval, 15 kilometers away. Bus services link the town with surrounding communities. There is a primary school; secondary education requires travel to neighboring towns.
