Ihoautograftit

An ihoautografti, often referred to as a skin autograft, is a surgical procedure where healthy skin is taken from one part of a patient's body and transplanted to another area that has been damaged or lost skin. This technique is commonly used to treat burns, large wounds, and certain skin conditions that result in significant skin loss. The source of the skin is the patient's own body, which eliminates the risk of immune rejection that would occur with a graft from another person (allograft) or an animal (xenograft).

The procedure involves harvesting a thin or thick layer of skin from a donor site. The donor site is typically chosen for its availability and to minimize scarring in a visible area. The harvested skin is then carefully prepared and applied to the recipient site, where it is secured with sutures, staples, or a specialized dressing. Over time, the graft integrates with the surrounding tissues, and new blood vessels grow into the transplanted skin, allowing it to survive and function. The donor site usually heals on its own, though it may leave a scar.
