Idrisid
The Idrisid dynasty was a medieval Islamic ruling house that founded the first organized Moroccan state in the western Maghreb. The dynasty was established by Idris I, a great‑grandson of Hasan ibn Ali, who fled Abbasid persecution in the east and crossed into North Africa in the late 8th century. He established a small emirate in the region of Volubilis and later moved its core to Fez, which became the political and cultural capital of the Idrisids. Idris II, who reigned in the early 9th century, consolidated authority, expanded the realm, and helped shape a distinct Moroccan Islamic polity.
