Hasan

Hasan is a masculine given name of Arabic origin, meaning "good," "benevolent," or "handsome." It is widely used in the Muslim world and among the diaspora, with common transliterations including Hasan, Hassan, and Hassen.

Notable historical figures named Hasan include Hasan ibn Ali (c. 625–670), the son of Ali and Fatimah, and the Prophet Muhammad's grandson; in Shia Islam he is regarded as the second Imam. Hasan al-Basri (c. 642–728) was a prominent theologian, jurist, and mystic who influenced early Islamic thought and Sufism.

Ottoman and other Islamic states used Hasan as well; Hasan Pasha refers to several officials who governed provinces or held high office.
