IUAs, or **Independent User Accounts**, refer to individual digital accounts created and managed by users without direct oversight from a centralized authority or platform provider. These accounts are commonly associated with decentralized systems, such as blockchain-based platforms, where users retain full control over their identities, data, and digital assets. Unlike traditional accounts tied to centralized services (e.g., social media or email providers), IUAs operate on principles of self-sovereignty, allowing users to authenticate and interact with applications or services using cryptographic keys or digital identities stored on their devices.

The concept of IUAs gained prominence with the rise of blockchain technology, particularly through protocols like Ethereum’s **Ethereum Name Service (ENS)** or decentralized identity solutions such as **Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI)** frameworks. These systems enable users to link human-readable identifiers (e.g., usernames) to blockchain addresses, facilitating secure, peer-to-peer interactions without relying on intermediaries.
