ISTHs

ISTHs commonly refers to the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis, a global non-profit professional association dedicated to advancing research, education, and clinical practice in disorders of blood coagulation. The society brings together scientists, clinicians, and other health professionals from around the world to share knowledge, set standards, and improve patient care.

The scope of ISTHs includes research collaboration, guideline development, professional education, and advocacy for better recognition and treatment of thrombotic and bleeding disorders. Members come from diverse disciplines, including hematology, cardiology, laboratory medicine, and basic science, and programs are designed to support researchers, clinicians, and trainees at various career stages. The organization also supports regional chapters and international partnerships to broaden reach and impact.

Key activities include the organization’s international congress, typically held every two years, which serves as a focal point for networking, presenting cutting-edge research, and disseminating new guidelines. ISTHs publishes scientific journals, notably the Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis (JTH), published by Wiley on behalf of ISTH, and Research and Practice in Thrombosis and Haemostasis (RPTH), an open-access journal launched by the society to broaden access to research and practice trends. In addition, ISTHs develops clinical guidelines, consensus statements, and educational resources to inform practitioners and researchers.

Governance is led by a Board of Directors and a Council, with ongoing committees responsible for science, publications, education, guidelines, and outreach. The society also offers fellowships, travel grants, and mentoring opportunities to support early-career professionals.
