ISOmetriske

Isometriske is an adjective used in Danish to describe concepts related to isometry, the idea of preserving distances or measurements under a transformation. The term appears across disciplines such as mathematics, geometry, art and technical drawing, and exercise science, with meanings aligned to its core notion of equality or constancy of measure.

In mathematics, an isometry is a function between metric spaces that preserves distances: for all points x and y, the distance between f(x) and f(y) equals the distance between x and y. In Euclidean space, common isometries include translations, rotations, reflections, and glide reflections, collectively known as rigid motions. Isometries preserve shape and size, and the study of them leads to the concept of symmetry and geometric structure.

In drawing and graphic representation, isometric projection is a method for depicting three-dimensional objects on a two-dimensional plane without perspective. The three axes are drawn equally foreshortened, producing a grid where measurements along the axes remain consistent. This technique is widely used in technical drawings, architecture sketches, and pixel art, giving a clear sense of form without vanishing points.

In fitness and physiology, isometriske contractions describe muscle contractions during which the muscle length remains constant while tension changes. Exercises such as planks or wall sits are examples. Isometric training is used to build static strength, posture, and joint stability, particularly when dynamic movement is limited or contraindicated.
