ISOIEC38500

ISO/IEC 38500 is an international standard that provides a framework for the governance of IT. It is formally titled "Information technology -- Governance of information technology." The standard offers principles and a model for evaluating and directing the use of IT within an organization. Its primary goal is to ensure that IT resources are used effectively, efficiently, and appropriately to support organizational objectives.

The standard is designed to be applicable to organizations of all sizes and types, regardless of their industry or location. It focuses on the responsibilities of decision-makers, including the board of directors, executives, and IT management, in governing IT. ISO/IEC 38500 outlines six principles that guide the governance of IT: accountability, transparency, responsibility, strategic alignment, due diligence, and ethical behavior.

The model presented in ISO/IEC 38500 consists of three key areas: the Governing Body, the Management, and the Use. The Governing Body is responsible for setting the direction and strategy for IT. Management is tasked with implementing and operating IT. The Use area refers to the actual application of IT by individuals within the organization. By addressing these areas, the standard aims to improve decision-making related to IT investments and operations, thereby contributing to the overall success of the organization.
