ISO/IEC 8859-11, commonly referred to as ISO8859-11, is part of the ISO/IEC 8859 family of single-byte character encodings designed to cover the Thai language. Like other encodings in the 8859 series, it uses the ASCII range 0x00-0x7F for standard Latin letters and punctuation; the 0x80-0x9F range is generally reserved for control codes, and the remaining code points, 0xA0-0xFF, are allocated to Thai letters, numerals, vowels, tone marks, and script-specific punctuation. This arrangement allows basic Thai text to be represented in a single-byte form without a multi-byte encoding, which was useful for older systems and documents predating Unicode.
