INSPIREcompliant

INSPIREcompliant (often written as INSPIRE-compliant) is a label used to describe datasets, services, or information systems that conform to the INSPIRE directive’s requirements for a European spatial data infrastructure. The term signals that the resource aligns with the harmonised rules intended to improve interoperability, discoverability, and reuse of environmental geospatial information across EU member states.

Overview and purpose. The INSPIRE directive, formally Directive 2007/2/EC, aims to create an integrated European Spatial

Technical requirements. An INSPIRE-compliant resource typically adheres to metadata standards (commonly ISO 19115-based metadata), complies with

Assessment and scope. Compliance is overseen by EU member states, which perform conformity checks and publish

Limitations. Real-world compliance varies by jurisdiction and data theme, and some resources may be in transition.
