IECENstandardeid is a term used to refer to European standards that are derived from and harmonized with international standards published by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). In Europe, the national standard bodies CEN and CENELEC, along with ETSI, adopt IEC standards as European standards (EN). When a European standard is based on an IEC standard, it is often designated as EN with a corresponding IEC number, and in some cases may be labeled EN IEC to reflect a joint adoption.

The relationship between IEC and EN standards is one of harmonization and market alignment. The IEC develops International Standards to ensure safety, interoperability, and reliability across electrical and electronic technologies. European bodies then transcribe these into EN standards to facilitate uniform compliance across the European Economic Area. Scope and content typically cover safety requirements, electrical compatibility, performance criteria, and testing methods for a wide range of equipment and systems, including consumer electronics, industrial equipment, medical devices, and electrical installations. The standards are periodically reviewed and updated, with new or revised EN standards often aligning with updated IEC standards.

Impact and use are central in conformity assessment and market access. Manufacturers reference applicable EN standards to demonstrate compliance with European directives and to obtain CE marking. While many EN standards align with IEC standards, not all IEC standards have harmonized EN counterparts, and the adoption process may vary by sector and region.
