Hüpertroofilise

Hüpertroofiline refers to a condition characterized by the enlargement of an organ or tissue due to an increase in the size of its cells, rather than an increase in the number of cells. This is distinct from hyperplasia, which involves an increase in cell number.

In medical contexts, the most common usage of "hüpertroofiline" is in relation to the heart. Hüpertroofiline kardiomüopaatia, or hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, is a genetic disorder where the heart muscle becomes abnormally thick. This thickening can make it harder for the heart to pump blood effectively and can lead to various symptoms, including shortness of breath, chest pain, and arrhythmias.

The condition can also affect other tissues. For example, hüpertroofiline armkude, or hypertrophic scarring, occurs when the skin produces an excessive amount of collagen in response to an injury, resulting in a raised, red scar. While these scars are confined to the original wound area, they can be a cosmetic concern.
