Hüpertermofiilsed is a term used to describe organisms, primarily bacteria and archaea, that thrive in extremely high temperatures. These microorganisms are classified as extremophiles, a group of life forms that flourish in physically or geochemically extreme conditions detrimental to most life on Earth. Specifically, hyperthermophiles are defined by their optimal growth temperatures exceeding 60 degrees Celsius (140 degrees Fahrenheit), with some species capable of growing at temperatures above 100 degrees Celsius (212 degrees Fahrenheit).

These remarkable organisms are typically found in environments such as deep-sea hydrothermal vents, hot springs, and geysers. Their survival in such conditions is attributed to unique biochemical adaptations. Their cell membranes are composed of more rigid lipids, preventing them from becoming too fluid at high temperatures. Enzymes produced by hyperthermophiles, known as thermostable enzymes, are also crucial. These enzymes maintain their functional three-dimensional structure and catalytic activity even under extreme heat, making them of significant interest for industrial and biotechnological applications.

The study of hyperthermophiles provides valuable insights into the limits of life and the potential for life to exist in extraterrestrial environments with similar high-temperature conditions. Their thermostable enzymes have already found use in processes like DNA amplification (PCR), industrial catalysis, and bioremediation.
