Höntrop

Höntrop is a district within the city of Bochum in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is located in the southern part of Bochum and borders the districts of Langendreer, Laer, and Grumme, as well as the neighboring city of Wattenscheid. Historically, Höntrop was an independent municipality before its incorporation into Bochum in 1926 as part of municipal reforms.

The area has a mixed character, featuring residential areas, green spaces, and some industrial remnants from its past. The development of Höntrop was significantly influenced by mining and related industries, a common theme in the Ruhr area. The former Zeche Holland mine, though no longer operational, is a notable historical landmark.

Today, Höntrop is a residential district with a community feel. It offers amenities such as schools, shops, and recreational facilities. The proximity to the A40 Autobahn provides good transport links. The Engelsburg district, a former manor house and later a hospital, is a recognized historical site within Höntrop. The district is also crossed by the stream Schwarzbach. Its population is diverse, reflecting the broader demographic makeup of Bochum.
