Häälsed

Häälsed is a rural settlement located in northern Estonia, within the administrative boundaries of Lääne-Viru County. The village is situated roughly two kilometres east of Laisru and lies in close proximity to the Viimsi and Kuivajärve lakes. Its geographic coordinates are approximately 58.650° North latitude and 25.400° East longitude.

The area surrounding Häälsed features a mix of coniferous forest and agricultural fields. Small patches of wetland are found along the nearby streams, providing habitat for local wildlife such as various species of waterfowl and amphibians. The landscape is typical of the Estonian lowlands, with a fairly flat topography and well-drained soil that historically supported barley and rye cultivation.

Historical records first mention the settlement in the early 18th century as part of the lands owned by the Baltic German nobility. Over the centuries, Häälsed remained primarily an agrarian community, with small farms and a modest population. During the Soviet era, the surrounding area was incorporated into collective farming structures, but the village itself retained its small-scale character. After Estonia regained independence in 1991, Häälsed experienced a slight population decline, a trend common in many rural localities due to urban migration.

Today, Häälsed is known for its tranquil environment and its close ties to the surrounding natural reserves. The village hosts a small community hall that serves as a venue for local gatherings and cultural events. While the population remains modest—estimated at fewer than 100 residents—the settlement continues to maintain traditional Estonian rural life, with an emphasis on sustainable agriculture and conservation of natural resources.
