Hátsókerékmeghajtás

Hátsókerékmeghajtás, often abbreviated as RWD, is a drivetrain configuration where the engine's power is sent exclusively to the rear wheels of a vehicle. This contrasts with front-wheel drive (FWD), where power goes to the front wheels, and all-wheel drive (AWD) or four-wheel drive (4WD), where power is distributed to all wheels.

In a RWD system, the engine is typically mounted longitudinally in the front of the vehicle. The power is transmitted through the transmission and driveshaft to a differential located at the rear axle. The differential then splits the power and sends it to each rear wheel. This layout allows for a more balanced weight distribution, as the heavier engine components are in the front, and the drivetrain components are in the rear.

Historically, RWD was the dominant layout for most passenger cars and performance vehicles. It is often praised for its handling characteristics, particularly its tendency to oversteer, which can be desirable for spirited driving and racing. The lack of drivetrain components in the front of the vehicle also allows for a more efficient engine cooling system and simpler steering geometry.

However, RWD vehicles can be more prone to oversteer in slippery conditions and may require more driver input to maintain control compared to FWD or AWD vehicles. Modern traction control and stability systems significantly mitigate these challenges. While less common in mainstream sedans today, RWD remains popular in sports cars, luxury vehicles, and trucks due to its performance advantages and traditional appeal.
