Hyperfokalt

Hyperfokalt is a term used in photography to describe the technique of focusing at a specific distance that maximizes the depth of field, ensuring that both near and distant elements in a scene appear acceptably sharp. This point of focus is known as the hyperfocal distance.

Achieving hyperfocal focus typically involves setting the lens to a specific aperture and then focusing at a distance that places the hyperfocal distance at infinity. When this is done correctly, the zone of acceptable sharpness extends from approximately half the hyperfocal distance all the way to infinity. The exact hyperfocal distance depends on the focal length of the lens and the aperture being used. Wider aperture lenses and longer focal lengths generally require a closer hyperfocal distance.

Photographers often use hyperfocal distance charts or calculators to determine the correct focus point for a given lens and aperture combination. Some lenses have markings on them that can assist in this process, indicating the hyperfocal distance for various apertures.

The primary benefit of hyperfokalt is its ability to create images with a large depth of field, making it particularly useful in landscape photography where maintaining sharpness from foreground to background is often desired. It can also be employed in street photography to ensure that subjects at varying distances are in focus. While it maximizes depth of field, it is important to note that true sharpness extends only to a certain point, and beyond that, sharpness is considered "acceptable" based on viewing conditions and print size.
