Hygieniatuen

Hygieniatuen is a Finnish term used in social and health care to describe the assistance and support provided to individuals to maintain personal hygiene. It covers both practical help with daily hygiene tasks and the provision of hygiene products and related equipment.

Typical components include assistance with bathing and showering, washing and drying, toilet care and continence management, oral hygiene, skincare, grooming, and help with menstruation or other personal care needs. In many cases, hygieniatuen also covers the arrangement or supply of consumables and aids required for hygiene, such as soaps, detergents, towels, razors, and assistive devices like shower chairs or grab bars.

Delivery is usually organized through local social services or home care teams, and may occur at the person’s home, in day centers, or in residential care settings. A formal needs assessment determines eligibility, and a care plan specifies the level and frequency of support. The aim is to safeguard dignity, maintain hygiene standards, and support functional independence while reducing risks such as skin irritation, infections, or falls.

Funding and access are typically governed by municipal social services and health care policies, with potential user fees and eligibility criteria; certain hygiene products and aids may be subsidized as part of broader disability or welfare benefits.
