Hujjatlari

Hujjatlari is an Uzbek grammatical form derived from the noun hujjat, meaning documents, certificates, or proofs. The term is used to indicate ownership of documents by someone or something, and its exact meaning—their documents or its documents—depends on the context.

Etymology and grammar: The base word hujjat comes from Arabic hujja, meaning proof or evidence, and has been integrated into Uzbek through historical linguistic contact. The plain plural hujjatlar means documents. By adding the possessive suffix -lari, hujjatlar becomes hujjatlari, a form that marks possession in the third person: it can refer to documents belonging to he, she, it, or to a plural subject, depending on the surrounding words. To specify who owns the documents more clearly, phrases such as ularning hujjatlari (their documents) or kompaniyaning hujjatlari (the company’s documents) are commonly used.

Usage: Hujjatlari frequently appears in formal or administrative contexts, including law, finance, and government, where documents and proofs are referenced.
