Huippukuormituskäyttö, often translated as peak load operation or peak shaving, refers to a strategy used in electricity generation and consumption to manage periods of exceptionally high demand. These peak demand periods, typically occurring during specific times of day or year, place significant strain on the electricity grid and necessitate the activation of additional, often more expensive, power generation sources.

The primary goal of huippukuormituskäyttö is to ensure grid stability and reliability by meeting these surges in electricity demand without causing blackouts or brownouts. This involves a combination of generation-side and demand-side measures.
