Hradit

Hradit is a town in the central lowlands of Veloria, a fictional republic used for illustrative purposes. It sits on the banks of the Silver River, with rolling farmland surrounding the urban core. The town center preserves a fortress complex, known as Hrad Fortress, which gave the town its name.

Located along the Silver River, it lies about 60 kilometers from the capital, in a temperate climate zone. The surrounding countryside supports cereals and vineyards, and the local landscape includes riverfront walks and small woodlands.

The settlement formed around a wooden fortress in the 12th century, which was replaced by stone masonry in the 14th century. It served as a military outpost during regional conflicts and grew as a market town in the 17th century. The arrival of the railway in the late 19th century helped spur urban growth, while border changes later shaped administrative ties.

As of the latest estimates, the population is about 8,500, comprising urban residents and farmers. Velorian is the official language, with a local Hraditian dialect also in use. The cultural calendar centers on the annual Hrad Gate festival in summer, and the town is known for pottery and woodwork. The local museum covers medieval and early modern history.

The economy combines tourism related to the fortress and riverfront with small-scale manufacturing and agriculture, including grains and light crafts. Transportation includes a regional railway linking to the capital and neighboring towns, a network of local buses, and a small river port used by tourist boats.
