Hoplobatrachus

Hoplobatrachus is a genus of frogs in the family Dicroglossidae. These frogs are native to Asia, found in parts of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Myanmar. The genus name Hoplobatrachus is derived from the Greek words "hoplon" meaning weapon or armor, and "batrachos" meaning frog, likely referring to their robust build.

Species within Hoplobatrachus are characterized by their medium to large size, with stout bodies and relatively long hind legs adapted for jumping. They typically inhabit moist environments such as grasslands, agricultural fields, marshes, and the edges of forests. These frogs are often found near water sources and are known to be quite terrestrial when not breeding.
