Hoogtegrenzen, in Dutch geography and planning, refer to predefined elevation boundaries that separate terrain into distinct elevation classes. They are used in mapping, spatial planning and environmental assessment to summarize elevation-related variation without relying on every individual contour. Hoogtegrenzen can be defined as discrete intervals (for example every 200 meters) or by ecophysiographic thresholds such as tree line, frost line or snow line, depending on the application.

In topographic maps hoogtegrenzen often appear as category borders rather than as individual contour lines; they emphasize functional thresholds that are relevant for ecological or land-use analyses. In climate and hydrology, height limits indicate altitudinal ranges where climate conditions, vegetation, soils or hydrological processes change in a way that affects land management.
