Honecker
Erich Ernst Honecker (22 August 1912 – 29 May 1994) was a German communist politician who led East Germany as the General Secretary of the Socialist Unity Party (SED) from 1971 to 1989 and, as the head of state, served as Chairman of the State Council during much of that period. He remained the country’s most influential political figure until the fall of the regime in 1989.
