Homosügootseks, a term derived from Greek words meaning "same" and "yoke," describes an organism or genetic locus that has two identical alleles for a particular trait. In simpler terms, for a specific gene, an individual who is homosügootseks possesses two copies of the same version of that gene. This contrasts with a heterosügootseks individual, who has two different alleles for the same gene.

The concept of homosügootseks is fundamental in genetics, particularly in understanding inheritance patterns. When an individual is homosügootseks for a dominant allele, they will express the dominant trait.
