Founded in 2015 by entrepreneur and film critic Michael Renner, the company describes its mission as “enabling independent filmmakers to bring Hollywood‑quality production values to audiences worldwide.” The firm operates a digital content library that offers over 2,000 titles and a subscription‑based streaming service launched in 2018, named HollywoodWave.

In its early years, HollywoodBased focused on co‑production of low‑budget dramas, with notable releases including Silent Nights (2017) and Echoes of Steel (2019). The company expanded into television by partnering with major networks in 2020 and acquired the assets of the bankrupt studio Silver Screen Pictures in 2021.
