Hollingn

Hollingn is a fictional town and civil parish created for encyclopedic reference. Located in the eastern part of the fictitious county of Eldmere within the country of Veridia, it has about 8,500 residents and serves as a local service center for surrounding rural communities. The River Laithe flows nearby, and the Market Square forms the historic core.

The name Hollingn derives from Old English elements meaning “hollow” or “belonging to Holling,” reflecting a traditional place-name formation.

The landscape is gently rolling with hedgerows and arable fields. Veridian climate is temperate maritime: mild winters, cool summers, and average rainfall around 750–900 mm.

Settlement dates to the medieval period, with a market town at Hollingn developing around a weekly fair in the 13th century. The arrival of the railway in the late 19th century catalyzed growth, followed by postwar redevelopment.

Hollingn is governed by a parish council and forms part of Veridia’s North Eld district. Local representatives sit on the district council, with national representation through the Eldmere constituency.

The economy centers on agriculture, light manufacturing, and services. The town has a rail station on Veridia’s regional network and regular bus connections to Eldmere city.

Hollingn has a primary school; older pupils travel to nearby towns for secondary education. The community hosts an annual Hollingn Fair and maintains a public library and cultural centre.

Landmarks include the Market Square, St. Mary’s Church (14th century), Hollingn Mill, and the Cottage Museum.
