HollidaySegarmetoden
HollidaySegarmetoden, also known as the Holliday-Segar formula, is a method used to calculate the initial daily fluid maintenance requirement for patients undergoing surgery or intensive care. It was developed by Robert Holliday and John Segar in the 1960s. The formula takes into account the patient's weight and the presence of burns or third-degree burns to determine the appropriate fluid replacement rate.
The Holliday-Segar formula is as follows:
4 mL/kg/hour for the first 10 kg of body weight
3 mL/kg/hour for the next 10 kg of body weight
2 mL/kg/hour for the remaining body weight
4 mL/kg/hour for the first 10 kg of body weight
2 mL/kg/hour for the next 10 kg of body weight
1 mL/kg/hour for the remaining body weight
The formula is designed to provide adequate hydration while minimizing the risk of fluid overload. It
